O'Reilly
Filly Wins VRC Sires (March 7 2010)
Danny O'Brien's outstanding run of
success with the stock of WS stallions continued on
his home track when Shamrocker overcame a torrid run
to win the Gr 2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes. She is by
O'Reilly who provided the Flemington conditioner with
one of his most memorable training victories when Master
O'Reilly triumphed in the 2007 Gr 1 Caulfield Cup.
Shamrocker faced the wind when posted three wide on
Saturday but kept giving valiantly for rider Glen Boss
to claim the two-year-old feature. She is a stablemate
of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Star Witness, who provided
the WS-bred Starcraft with his first Gr 1 victory as
a sire in the Blue Diamond Stakes.
"She'd had a three and a half weeks off and tracked
three or four-deep for the whole race," said O'Brien.
"Very rarely do they hold on like that. She was
actually probably the strongest on the line".
Shamrocker, who became O'Reilly's 45th individual stakeswinner
is likely to be spelled now and be prepared for the
VRC Oaks in the spring. "We've always had hopes
she would be an Oaks filly. “She’s a really
nice, scopey O’Reilly filly and we’ve had
a lot of success with that breed and hopefully she can
continue that," O'Brien said.
A $65,000 Karaka Select Sale purchase, Shamrocker was
bred by renowned horse dentist Vern Trillo. She is out
of the Blues Traveller mare Bohemian Blues who won five
times and is a half-sister to stakes-winners Rock N
Roll Kid and Fairy Tale.
