WS graduates picked up a double yesterday at Awapuni
where Central Districts debutant Regal Ruler appropriately
posted his breakthrough victory in the Waikato Stud
Maiden. He was making his first appearance from Wayne
Marshment's Wanganui stable and ran out a comfortable
victor over 1400 metres.
The Pins chestnut is raced by Marshment and Steve Baron
who bought the gelding for $6000 at the 2006 Select
Sale at Karaka and prepared him for eight minor placings
before sending him south to join Marshment's team. A
half-brother to four winners, Regal Ruler is out of
the Gr 3 Ladies' Mile winner Orange Walk who is a half-sister
to the Listed Newmarket Handicap winner Monarch Prince.
His success at the Marton meeting was followed up by
the genuine Little Singa who now has three career victories
with eight minor place finishes. The daughter of Danasinga
was an $8000 weanling purchase for trainer Garry Vile
and is out of an O'Reilly mare from the family of former
top three-year-old and Gr 1 NZ 2000 Guineas winner Weston
Lea.
