French Stakes Winner A WS Descendant
(May 31 2010)
WS can claim a strong and direct connection to the promising
French colt Lawspeaker who proved his worth at stakes
level at the weekend. The lightly-tried three-year-old
claimed the Listed Derby du Midi at Bordeaux to take
his record to two wins and two placings from four appearances
from the stable of top European trainer Andre Fabre.
Bred by Darley Stud and raced by Godolphin, Lawspeaker
is a son of Singspiel and the WS-bred and sold Danasinga
mare Forum Floozie. She was purchased for $160,000 by
former Australian jockey turned broadcaster Ron Dufficy
from the farm's Premier Sale draft to Karaka in 2000.
A Listed winner and Gr 1 placed in the Coolmore Classic,
Forum Floozie is a daughter of WS's former three-time
New Zealand Broodmare of the Year Flying Floozie (Pompeii
Court). She earned international stardom as the dam
of the top-class galloper Starcraft who in 2005 became
the first New Zealand-bred dual Gr 1 winner in Europe.
He carried the WS brand to victories in the Prix du
Moulin at Longchamp and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at
Newmarket.
