Jack's Point finished runner-up at his sole juvenile
appearance last season and it came as no surprise that
he went one better at Woodville yesterday. Subsequent
form out of his debut race has proved to be excellent
and the Lisa Latta-trained Pins colt looks to have the
quality to make swift progress through the grades.
He was beaten at the Egmont meeting by Rio Fortune who
has since won twice at Listed level in the Castletown
Stakes and the Mr Tiz Trophy while third placegetter
and stablemate Platinum Princess has been a winner and
ran creditably to finish in behind the major players
in the Gr 1 New Zealand Oaks.
Jack's Point was bred by WS and realised $140,000 to
the bid of Taupo-based bloodstock agent Paul Beamish
at Karaka in 2008. He is out of the winning Kinjite
mare Activate who is a three-quarter sister to Gr 2
Sha Tin Vase winner Astimonti and Gr 3 Summer Cup winner
Zanetta.
WS stallion Pins completed a winning double at Woodville
when Stepping Out struck her first winning blow in the
following event. The four-year-old had also finished
runner-up at her previous appearance and was able to
go one better after receiving the perfect run in the
trail.
