Tootsie Wins Mannerism Stakes (February
22 2010)
Following in the footsteps of Seachange (NZ)
3 years earlier, the Kiwi raider Tootsie (NZ)
(Pins) lifted the spoils in Australia's Gr.3
MRC Mannerism Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.
Under the tutelage of Mike and Paul Moroney, Tootsie
(NZ) entered the 1400m Caulfield challenge
as the black-type victor of the 2008 Listed
Waikato Sprint Hcp (1200m) and as the highly
credible last start runner-up of the Gr.1 WRC
Telegraph Hcp (1200m).
Carving out her path from midfield for Dwayne Dunn on
Saturday, Tootsie (NZ) was in no mood
to play second fiddle again, and when provided with
the opportunity to let down, toughed out the finish
to score her first Australian win by a long neck.
All told, the Garry Chittick-bred 5YO has won 7 starts
from 23 outings and boasts total career earnings of
NZ$317,250 & A$104,725.
Picking up the baton from Icepin (NZ)
(see following story), Tootsie (NZ)
represented the second Australasian Gr.3 winner on the
day to boast the 6 time Gr.1 producer Pins as
a sire and the dual Gr.1 producing broodmare sire O’Reilly
as a dam sire.
