Centaine made an outstanding contribution to the growth
and prosperity of WS and his lasting legacy continues
to shape and influence Australasian racing. The former
champion stallion has left a further indelible mark
as a broodmare sire with impressive Gr 2 Alister Clark
Stakes winner Linton recently taking his individual
tally to 87
.
The rising grey star is out of Centaine's daughter Our
Heather while Eileen Dubh (Gr 1 Levin Classic) and Jimmy
Choux (Gr 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes) have similarly
come to stakes prominence this season for the son of
Century and the Gr 2 Silver Slipper winner Rainbeam.
Centaine was first secured by the Chittick family for
duty at their Thorndon Park Stud at Longburn, on the
outskirts of Palmerston North, in 1985. He quickly made
his mark with his first crop numbering 14 individual
juvenile winners to give Centaine the Champion First
Season Sire title, a feat he repeated in 1999-2000.
He went on to attain New Zealand's Champion Sire honours,
won the 1993 Dewar Stallion Award and has been a three-time
Champion NZ Broodmare Sire. Centaine moved north to
WS in 1994 and remained there until his passing 10 years
later.
