Well-related mare Layla Rose made the best possible
start to her career when she made a winning debut on
her home track today. Trained at Otaki by Karen Zimmerman,
the WS-bred and sold four-year-old showed the benefit
of several trial outings with a dominant victory over
1400 metres.
By O'Reilly out of Centaine's winning daughter Cenphic,
Layla Rose is a sister to the former top-class race
Irlanda. She won six times with the Gr 2 Auckland Thoroughbred
Breeders' Stakes and the Gr 3 Eulogy Stakes her career
highlights. She was also Gr 1 placed when runner-up
in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes.
Layla Rose and Irlanda hail from a potent female line
and direct descendants of Seraphic (Gr 3 Rotorua Challenge
Stakes) and Torquay (Gr 2 Great Northern Oaks). Former
champion two-year-old, Gr 2 Wellington Guineas winner
and four-time Gr 1 placegetter Spring Rain (Centaine)
is another top-liner in the pedigree.
